Dolomites Day Two: Mortirolo and Passo Gavia

Part of a somewhat reduced bunch after yesterday's massive effort, and the promise of an even bigger day today was somewhat daunting. The day started with a gentle 30km descent to the base of the iconic Mortirolo.
We were still smiling at this point.

Looking back to the valley from the early part of the climb.

Finally at the top of the merciless Mortirolo.
Lance Armstrong (who's he?) claims it's the toughest climb he's ever done. Me too.

A quick descent then a steady 30 km climb up to Passo Gavia.
Stuart had to wait there a long time to get this photo with me.

View from the top.
The lake is still partially iced over.

A magical 30km descent back to the hotel finished a big day out.
Awesome.

Agree about the Mortirolo, we did it as part of the Gran Fondo Marco Pantani.
Pretty bad.
I see Stuey has taken to Jim's dressing style, in the dark.
